Japan, U.S., India kick off key joint naval exercises amid growing Chinese maritime assertiveness

Các tàu của Lực lượng Phòng vệ Hàng hải Nhật Bản cùng các chiến hạm Mỹ và Ấn Độ đã có mặt tại căn cứ Sasebo của Hải quân Mỹ tại tỉnh Nagasaki vào ngày 10/6 khi quốc gia này bắt đầu cuộc tập trận hải quân chung mang tên Malabar.

Một loạt chiến hạm của Mỹ-Nhật-Hàn đã kéo tới căn cứ Sasebo của Hải quân Mỹ tại tỉnh Nagasaki, cách quần đảo Senkaku/Điếu Ngư tranh chấp giữa Nhật và Trung Quốc 400 km để tham gia đợt tập trận hải quân kéo dài hai tuần đến 17/6.

Đợt tập trận này được thành hai giai đoạn. Giai đoạn 1 từ ngày 10 đến 13/6 diễn ra ở cảng Sasebo, giai đoạn 2 từ ngày 14 đến 17/6 diễn ra ở biển Philippines, gần biển Đông.

Theo nhận định của giới phân tích, cuộc tập trận chung này diễn ra như một lời cảnh báo đối với Trung Quốc

The drills, which were taking place in waters off Okinawa Prefecture’s east coast and in the Philippine Sea through July 17, are partly seen as a warning to China over its growing military assertiveness in the South and East China seas.

Ngày 10-6, Ấn Độ, Mỹ, Nhật bắt đầu cuộc tập trận hàng hải Malabar 2016 tại vùng biển cảng Sasebo gần đảo Okinawa, cách quần đảo Senkaku tranh chấp giữa Nhật và Trung Quốc 400 km.

Cuộc tập trận sẽ kéo dài từ ngày 10 đến ngày 17-6, được chia làm hai giai đoạn. Giai đoạn 1 từ ngày 10 đến 13-6 diễn ra ở cảng Sasebo, giai đoạn 2 từ ngày 14 đến 17-6 diễn ra ở biển Philippines, gần biển Đông.

During a joint news conference at the Sasebo base, U.S. 7th Fleet Deputy Commander Rear Adm. Brian Hurley said the drills would cover a broad range of highly sophisticated operations.

Vessels participating in the drills include the MSDF destroyer Hyuga, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis and India’s Sahyadri guided-missile stealth frigate.

Indian Navy Eastern Fleet Commander Rear Adm. Soonil Bhokare expressed an eagerness to deepen mutual understanding through the joint drills as the three countries seek to tackle common challenges.

Referring to Thursday’s entry by a Chinese warship into the contiguous zone for the first time around the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands in Okinawa, the Indian commander called on Beijing to maintain discipline at sea and uphold freedom of navigation.

In Tokyo, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that the joint drills will allow the MSDF to improve its operational capabilities and strengthen cooperation with both the U.S. and Indian navies.

Suga, however, denied that the drills are meant as a warning against China’s increasing assertiveness in the East and South China Seas.
