Major step for Vietnamese fruit exports to the United States
Vietnam reports a 7-month trade surplus of 764 million USD / Embassy seeks to expand agricultural and food trade with Switzerland
This is a result of the Vietnamese Consulate General in San Francisco's efforts to introduce Vietnamese products to foreign distribution systems, which began at the beginning of this year.
This is a huge step forward in promoting Vietnamese fruits generally and lychee in particular in the US market, as the majority of Vietnamese fruits have only ever been sold in small markets and super markets to serve Asian consumers.
Major step for Vietnamese fruit exports to the United States.
A representative from US Dragonberry Produce, the distributor of Vietnamese lychee in the United States, reported that two additional containers of lychee are en route to the United States. Each 430-gram bag of fruit will continue to retail for 4.99 USD at two supermarket chains.
The company has taken steps to introduce the fruit to local partners and consumers, according to the representative. It piloted the marketing of Vietnamese lychee at the trade, investment, and tourism promotion conference in San Francisco, which was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in early May. The company then imported lychee by air for sale in supermarkets in Los Angeles.
The high air transport costs diminished the market competitiveness of Vietnamese lychee. This explains why there hasn't been much lychee export to the US even though the fruit has been available since 2014.
Due to Dragonberry's successful attempt to transport lychee by sea, there will likely be a significant increase in the amount of Vietnamese lychee exported to the US in the near future.
