Vietnam enhances international cooperation to fulfill COP26 commitments

The National Strategy on Climate Change by 2050, the update plan for the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), and the details of Vietnam's Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) were the topics of discussion during the meeting.

Ha asserted that Vietnam has made significant progress in fulfilling its COP26 commitments and has seen significant results. Notably, the National Strategy on Climate Change by 2050 has indicated cross-cutting perspectives on the position, role, priorities, responsibility, methods, and resources to respond to climate change; and established specific and general goals on climate change adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions with the objective of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.

He proposed that the relevant parties and the Group of Seven (G7) quickly define financial support commitments to assist Vietnam in carrying out its transition process actively.

Regarding preparations for COP27, the minister stated that his ministry is building Vietnam's participation project, which will be submitted to the Prime Minister in the near future for consideration and approval.

Alok Kumar Sharma, while appreciating Vietnam's actions and results after COP26, stated that the British Government will accompany and assist Vietnam in fulfilling its COP27 commitments.

 

The parties agreed to hold face-to-face meetings to promote the implementation of commitments and the response to climate change.
