A sub-project to upgrade Nha Trang - Saigon railway section has been approved

DNVN - The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway route will be renovated and upgraded in the years 2021–2025, and a sub-project to upgrade the Nha Trang–Sai Gon railway section has received approval from the Ministry of Transport (MoT) for an investment totaling nearly 1.1 trillion VND (more than 47 million USD).

The 411-km route, which passes through the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, and Binh Duong, as well as Ho Chi Minh City, will be put into operation between 2022 and 2025.

The objective of the sub-project is to ensure traffic safety, improve the quality of railway infrastructure, and increase both passenger and freight transport capacity along the Nha Trang – Saigon route. This will be funded by the State budget in accordance with the medium-term public investment plan for 2021-2025.

In 2022, approximately 80 billion VND will be allocated, followed by 350 billion VND in 2023, 400 billion VND in 2024, and 269 billion VND in 2025. It will concentrate on upgrading deteriorating bridges and renovating, repairing, and constructing several passenger and cargo stations.

The MoT has mandated that the Vietnam Railway Project Management Board and relevant units conduct exhaustive surveys on all relevant aspects and review and balance capital sources in order to maximize investment efficiency.

This sub-project, along with two others to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi – Vinh and Vinh – Nha Trang routes recently approved by the Ministry of Transport, and those under the medium-term capital package of 7 trillion VND in 2016-2020, is part of the effort to implement a detailed plan for modernizing the North-South railway.

There will be additional projects to upgrade and modernize the route, according to the Vietnam Railway Authority, in order to satisfy transportation demand and implement the railway network master plan for the 2021–2030 period with a vision to 2050.
